 Lung Health Registry

Canadian researchers are eager to understand why some people have breathing problems and why people develop lung conditions.

The Canadian Respiratory Research Network has developed a Lung Health Registry that will connect people, like you, who are interested in their lung health to research studies that are happening close to home and that fit your unique health needs.

I’m interesting in signing up. What do I do?

1
Read and sign the consent form. This digital form explains what information will be collected, how it will be stored, and what it will be used for. The form is avalable in English and French.
2
Complete the online questionnaire. You will receive an email each year to remind you to review and update your information as necessary.
3
The Registry team will email you if you are matched to a research study. You will receive information about the study and who to contact if you are interested in learning more.

I have a few questions about the Lung Health Registry:

What is a Registry?

A registry is a secure database that stores information about a person and their medical condition(s). The  Lung Health Registry developed by the Canadian Respiratory Research Network is a database of Canadians 18+ who are interested in participating in research, and helps match people with ongoing lung health research studies in Canada.

Do I have to have a lung disease to sign up for the Lung Health Registry?

No. Research studies often require participants with healthy lungs. If you don’t have a lung disease but are interested in supporting lung health, signing up for the Lung Health Registry is a great way to get involved and make a difference.

Why does Canada need a Lung Health Registry?

Lung conditions are one of the leading causes of death in Canada. Recent factors, like the COVID-19 pandemic, e-cigarette use in youth, poor air quality caused by wildfires and the worsening of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), are making our lungs more and more vulnerable.
Researchers who are part of the Canadian Respiratory Research Network developed the Lung Health Registry, in consultation with the public, to make it easier to carry out much-needed lung health research.
